This just came out from Yahoo News: ” Group finds 6 million pounds of trash on world’s beaches ” By H. JOSEF HEBERT, Associated Press Writer . Please visit the link (if it is still not broken): http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080415/ap_on_re_us/beach_debris

Of the 33,000 miles of shoreline scoured by volunteers worldwide 6 millions pounds of garbage and debris have been found. The notorious debris dumper is the United States whose volunteers collect a ratio of 390 pounds of trash every mile. This is followed by Mexico with 157 pounds per mile. Bahrain has 300 pounds but only 1 mile has been covered. China, a big economic powerhouse and a potential major polluter  has only 65 pounds of trash per mile found on its beaches and shorelines. Congratulation! But the Chinese has little shorelines compared to the Philippines.

Philippines has shorelines and beaches 3 times longer than the USA.  Philippines is not included in the survey. Some factors maybe because there are no volunteers, the Ocean Conservancy body consider the condition of our beaches at an acceptable level, or it is just impossible to get a consensus in our country. Nevertheless, I would say that majority of the Philippines shorelines and beaches are pristine, unspoiled and unexplored. If you visit www.warmparadise.com you see pictures of beaches littered with organic debris only. This is what I been promoting to the retirees around the world. Visit the Philippines, come to Northern Samar and see nature at its best, untouched by civilization. Our province is 3500 square kilometers inhabited by half million people only.  We are poor so who would litter food wrapper on the beach. We have no money, not a dime to buy a stick of cigarette so who would throw cigarette butt on the pristine water. Well, our poverty maybe an exaggeration. We are not really that poor. The national road in our province is all concrete, we have an airport with 3 flights to and from Manila, our infrastructures are all in good condition but more importantly, we have friendly people in our province. So come and visit us. You will still see unspoiled beaches here, pristine shorelines around the province of Northern Samar.
